Winterizing your pig!!
If you have your pig out side or in a barn you will need to make sure your pig has plent of water that is not frozen. Your pig will need extra food during this time to help keep them warm. You will also need extra bedding for your pig, blankets , straw, or hay and make sure it is dry.
If your pig lives indoors they will want to stay near something warm or in their bed with their blankets. It is very important that your pig get exercise during this time. You may have to find different ways of encouraging them out side. They are smart and this may take some doing.
They may not want to drink much water in winter months and it is okay to put some flavor in their water to encourage them to drink, but be careful that it is not too sweet. I think pedilite or gator aid in small amounts would give them extra electrolytes.
Use lots of moisturizer during this time as their skin becomes dry like ours in the winter. They love to be groomed and you should make this a daily routine.
Teaching them tricks can help with the exercise and will also help with boredom. They can become very lazy as they get older and need to be encouraged to get up and move.
